Top 10 Best Makeup Products of 2008

I cannot believe we are already coming to a close for 2008. Where did the year go? It took much deliberating, but I came up with my list of the Top 10 Best Makeup Products of 2008 that have been reviewed here on Makeup Minute.

1. Elizabeth Arden Intervene–Hands down this was the best liquid foundation I have used this year and still use now going into 2009.

2. L’Oreal Bare Naturale Luminous Lengthening Mascara–Totally makes lashes look lovely.

3. Physician’s Formula Mineral Wear Mineral Concealer Stick–Covers those flaws so that no one needs to know I’m not perfect!

4. Sally B.’s Skin Yummies Get Even Finishing Powder–I probably recommend this so much to everyone that Sally should be giving me a commission!

5. Urban Apothecary Mineral Lip Tint–Because it is such a moisturizing lipstick.

6. Benefit Cosmetics Talk to the Tan–Because seriously? How natural did that look on me?

7. All MAC Cosmetics lipsticks–Because they always make me look like a million bucks.

8. Pix! Natural Mineral Kit–This is a staple in my makeup bag.

9. Jemma Kidd On Set Mattifying Powder–Looking flawless is so under rated.

10. Purely Cosmetics Pearl & Silk Powder Primer–I also love Pure Silk Mineral Foundation.

So let me hear your thoughts–do you agree with this list? Is there a review I did that you felt should’ve made it into the top 10?

Product Find: tarte Cosmetics Purse Your Lips

It’s been so long since I’ve bought any new lipsticks or glosses (because most would agree I have enough for the entire state of Pennsylvania in my handbag right now.) But I came across tarte’s new Purse Your Lips and it was the ingredients in this product that caught my eye. As many people already know, my day job is at Pierce Mattie PR and Pierce and I recently comprised a list of the Top 10 Ingredients in Beauty for 2009. And guess what? tarte’s Purse Your Lips contains 3 of the 10 ingredients–acerola, acai and goji berries. These ingredients are antioxidant rich nutrients and vitamins that have been known to deliver refining, anti-aging and skin-restorative benefits.

Hair and Makeup Artist Steven Lake Tells You How to Look Good in Pictures

Yesterday I got a small taste of what it is like to be a celebrity hounded by the paparazzi as my family chased after me with cameras flashing away. They often laughed at me as I said, “Yeah that picture came out bad, delete it!” Can you relate? Steven Lake, who is a celebrity hair and makeup artist (to Carson Kressley even!), worked in collaboration with Nikon to come up with some great tips on how to look good in pictures. Now Steven, where were you yesterday when I needed you?!

New Mascara: Bare Escentuals Buxom Lash

Call me slightly skeptical when a brand makes some stellar claims about a product, but also call me intrigued when that claim is by a very well-known brand. Bare Escentuals has just launched its newest mascara, Buxom Lash, which they claim will volumize lashes by 300%. Not 100%, not 200%, but 300%..I guess they’re not fooling around. Mascara is serious stuff.

I didn’t really have much luck with their Buxom Lip Plumper, but I’m not one to discount a brand or product based on the review of one item alone. So Buxom Lash will be on my after-Christmas shopping list to take it for a test drive. However, if you’ve picked this up for yourself, I’d love to hear what you thought. Did it really give your lashes 300% of POW?

Ethereal Makeup Tips from Makeup Artist Todra Payne

With all of these makeup tips lately, I am going to have you lovely ladies gracing everyone’s presence looking hot! Todra Payne, who is a celebrity makeup artist that dotes on all-natural, healthy beauty brands, owns Makeup Theory Workshops, a beauty educational company that teaches women how to look good and save the planet. Please enjoy Todra’s makeup tips customized just for Makeup Minute readers!

“I love creating ethereal looks with a surprising pop of color. This holiday season, I’m excited about Aveda’s Inner Light Liquid Foundation. Tourmaline, a semi-precious gem, gives this foundation just the right amount of “glow” for a beautiful, flawless face. Swipe a little of Aveda’s Moon or Opal eye shadow all over the eye lid and add a coat of black mascara.

For the tiniest bit of cheek color, dust Tulip blush by Sevi on just the apples.

Finally, use lips as the statement piece by applying Sevi’s Lip Nector Mineral Lipgloss in Passion Fruit, Black Currant or Agave. The finished look is both angelic and sexy.”

On10 Iconic Lip Balms

Have you seen these adorable vintage lip balms that Sephora has with On10? The balms are all inspired by the iconic brands of childhood such as 7Up, Tootsie Roll, Hershey’s Kisses and Dr. Pepper. Now they don’t taste like your favorite soda’s and sweets, but they have the fragrance. Which makes me want to choose the Sparkling Pink Grapefruit Lip Balm since the fragrance of grapefruit is scientificially documented as making men think a woman is at least 6 years younger than she really is. I heard the Almond Lip Balm smells heavenly as well.

On10’s products are found only at Sephora and I bet they’d make great stocking stuffers. www.Sephora.com
